What is it?
The 3D Flag template allows users to create custom, 3D flag animations in Adobe After Effects.
Just drop in an image or video to convert it to a fabric flag waving in the wind, with 3D ripples and a 3D flagpole. The flag’s movement in the wind is customizable using easy slider controls. You can go with the default settings and save time, or animate complex flag movements. Easily adjust the speed and shape of the ripples to simulate different flag sizes or wind speeds. Choose from multiple country flags, flagpoles, fabric textures, and sound effects - it’s all included!

Real 3D – After Effects can’t normally curve layers in 3D. Even though this effect is made entirely in After Effects, it will curve and oscillate your flag in three dimensions. This means you'll be able to animate 3D camera movements and the flag won't look flat. The 3D ripples, combined with 2D ripples and various other warping effects, are what creates the most realistic flag simulations possible without expensive third-party plugins.

Easy Customization – Your flag can be customized with easy-to-use slider controls. Everything from gravity and wind speed, to the shape of the ripples, to the color of the flagpole can be adjusted or animated with keyframes. Choose your resolution – The 3D Flag template includes three flag resolutions to choose from, up to 4K (4000x2000 pixels).

3D Flagpole – A basic, custom 3D flagpole is included, with a metal sphere at the top, and ropes that shake in the wind.

2D Flagpoles – Nine PNG images of different flagpoles with transparent backgrounds - great for animations that don't have extremely high or low camera angles.

Country Flags – 25 common country flags to choose from, or use your own image. It can be any shape. Easily put text, images, or videos on your flag in After Effects.

Fabric Textures – Choose from seven different fabric textures, or import your own texture image.

Sound Effects – Includes five different sound effects of flags and flagpoles in the wind.

Need to Know

This template is compatible with Adobe After Effects, v.17.0 (2020) and all later versions. Works on both PCs and Macs. No plugins required.

The template offers three different flag resolutions to choose from: 1000x500 pixels, 2000x1000 pixels, and 4000x2000 pixels. The widths of these flags can be adjusted, but the heights are fixed. The main comps are 1920x1080 by default, but the comps can be changed to any resolution or frame rate, and the effect will work the same.

This template has been "universalized", so it will work in After Effects running in any language.
The 3D Flag template is not a plugin, so there is nothing to install. Rather, it's an Adobe After Effects project file, commonly known as a "template" because most of the work is already done and the user needs only to make their own customizations. This template is compatible with version 17.0 as well as all later versions of After Effects.
